👩🍳 Instructions
Step 1: Preheat Your Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line a 9" × 13" baking dish with parchment paper, leaving a little extra hanging over the sides for easy removal.
Lightly grease the parchment paper.
Step 2: Cream the Butter, Peanut Butter & Sugars
In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, creamy peanut butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy, approximately 2–3 minutes.
Step 3: Add the Eggs & Vanilla
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Stir in the vanilla extract until everything is combined.
Step 4: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the peanut butter mixture, mixing just until combined.
Be careful not to overmix!
Step 5: Add the Halloween Goodies!
Gently fold in the chocolate chips and Halloween-colored candies.
Save a small handful of candies and chocolate chips to press onto the top before baking.
This little trick makes your cookie bars look extra colorful and festive!
Step 6: Press Into the Pan
Spread the cookie dough evenly into your prepared baking dish.
The dough will be thick, so use a spatula or lightly greased hands to press it into the corners.
Sprinkle the reserved candies and chocolate chips across the top, pressing them gently into the dough.
Step 7: Bake
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown and the center looks set.
A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with a few moist crumbs, but not wet batter.
Don't overbake! These bars are best when they're soft and chewy.
Step 8: Cool & Decorate
Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting.
If you're using candy eyeballs or decorative sprinkles, add them while the bars are still slightly warm so they adhere, or attach them with a dab of melted chocolate.
For an extra festive touch, drizzle melted white chocolate over the cooled bars.
Step 9: Slice & Enjoy!
Use the parchment paper to lift the bars from the pan.
Cut into 24 squares and enjoy!
🧡 Tips for the BEST Monster Cookie Bars
Don't Overbake!
The secret to perfectly chewy cookie bars is removing them from the oven when the center is just set. They'll continue to firm up as they cool.
Use Old-Fashioned Oats
Old-fashioned rolled oats provide that classic monster cookie texture. Quick oats can work in a pinch, but the bars may have a softer texture.
Save Some Candy for the Top
Pressing extra candies into the dough before baking gives the finished bars that colorful, bakery-style appearance.
Let Them Cool Before Cutting
I know it's tempting to dig right in, but allowing the bars to cool helps them hold together when sliced.
Make Them Extra Spooky!
Add candy eyeballs, Halloween sprinkles, or a white chocolate drizzle for a fun Halloween party treat.
👻 Fun Halloween Variations
Peanut Butter Cup Monster Bars
Replace half the chocolate chips with chopped peanut butter cups for an extra peanut buttery treat.
Double Chocolate Monster Bars
Add ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder and reduce the flour by ¼ cup for a chocolate version.
Candy Corn Monster Bars
For a festive look, press a few candy corn pieces onto the bars after baking. Avoid baking candy corn directly into the dough because it can melt and become sticky.
Fall Harvest Cookie Bars
Swap the Halloween candies for autumn-colored chocolates and festive fall sprinkles. Perfect for Thanksgiving gatherings, too!
📦 How to Store Halloween Monster Cookie Bars
Room Temperature: Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
Refrigerator: Keep in an airtight container for up to 1 week. Allow the bars to come to room temperature before serving for the best texture.
Freezer: Wrap individual bars tightly and freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
Thaw at room temperature before enjoying.
Can You Make These Ahead of Time?
Absolutely!
These bars are a great make-ahead dessert for Halloween parties, school celebrations, and family gatherings.
Bake them the day before, let them cool completely, and store them in an airtight container until you're ready to serve.
🎃 Perfect for Halloween Parties & Treat Bags!
One of my favorite things about these cookie bars is how easy they are to share.
Cut them into smaller squares for a Halloween dessert tray, package them individually in festive treat bags, or stack them on a cute serving platter for your next gathering.
They're especially fun for:
-
Halloween parties
-
Fall festivals
-
School celebrations (where peanuts are permitted)
-
Neighborhood get-togethers
-
Halloween movie nights
-
Homemade gifts for friends and family
Allergy Note: These bars contain peanuts, wheat, eggs, and dairy. Check candy labels for additional allergens, and avoid serving at peanut-free events.
